Networking and Support Opportunity

There may be an important networking and support opportunity for any who are reading the Engineersforchrist.org website. I am a former electrical engineer and have a close friend, Steve Hoyt, who is working as an engineer and architect in Uganda under Engineering Ministries International. Steve will be traveling for six months in various parts of the US this fall and would love to meet with other Christian engineers who would like to talk about having a global impact for Christ as an engineer. There are many worldwide opportunities for engineers to be involved in missions and international engineering projects on a volunteer and short-term basis, and Steve is interested in meeting with other engineers individually or in small groups to talk about how God is using Christina engineers today as a new face of missions. Steve will be in Maine, New England, Colorado, and other areas from October 2009 through February 2010. If anyone would like to talk with Steve or discuss getting together, contact him at steve {at} emiea {dot} org. Thanks.

On the 22 May 2009 engineersforChrist.org was created, it's purpose and direction are at this point known only to God. I created this site out of a longing for Christian fellowship within the engineering community, how or if this site is to be manifested is not yet known to me. What I do know is my personal struggle with how my Christian faith should impact my education and career path in engineering.

I graduated with my Computer Science degree in 2008 and felt lost spiritually. During my years as a student I felt continually that my chosen field of study lacked meaning in the spiritual sense. My degree gave me skills with technology and math, unfortunately I felt then and still do that these skills have very little use in a spiritual and ministerial sense. Other than by helping to teach others, I have found very few ways in which my computer science education can help me to serve God. Furthermore throughout my education, and after, I felt isolated in my field for being a Christian. Very few of my classmates and colleagues where Christians, and if they where the I found that the typical computer science classroom discouraged others, as well as myself, from speaking out to say so.

I have had a constant longing on my heart for a place where I could connect with other Christian engineers. In my online searching I have found very few organizations or connection points specifically for Christian engineers and even fewer that allowed computer scientists in all of their related fields to be included in the engineering category. As a result I have decided to start engineersforChrist.org.

I do not know God's plans, this site may never be more than this letter. However, I pray that God will allow at least a discussion to be started of how faith in God and a Christian world view can impact the work of any engineer. Furthermore I pray that God will allow other Christian engineers to find fellowship with each other so that the work of God can be carried out in and through us, both in our jobs and in other ministry areas.

If you want to participate in the discussion and help in forming what this site may be please send an e-mail to:

participate {at} engineersforChrist.org

please include your engineering field and I will post it to this site for others to see.

I think it is truly amazing that I felt prompted to search for "engineersforchrist" today, and you started your website yesterday.

I am a very talented engineer, and I am becoming very frustrated with other engineers, entrepreneurs, and others who do not know Christ, or walk in His ways. The world is becoming so prideful, evil, envious, and selfish. I just don't fit in with them.

Life has purpose. We need to be serious with our life and our ways. We need to live our destinies, and not be stained by this world and it's evil ways.

We all have a specific purpose. We need to walk in it.

I am searching for a team to work with, in the areas of research and development of technologies. I have great passion and a strong destiny.

I am also an entrepreneur with a lot of projects, and businesses to get off the shelf and into production. If there is anyone else who shares this strong destiny, I would like to talk.

I was happy to see the website. I too have been struggling to "co-exist" with non believing coworkers. In the past it did not seem to be as much of a problem but with the economy slowing down it appears that many who do not have hope look down on those that do. I would be interested in any form of collaboration. I noticed that Parker has a need to commercialize technology. What are the opportunities to work together.

It is time for Christian's and specifically Engineers come together and follow there callings. God has called us as Christians to follow him and he has given each of us unique gifts to fulfill his plans. I am a Christian (first) and an Electrical Engineer with 20+ years of experience in electrical industry. I am frustrated with the government and big corporations, they are not the answer to our problems we are. I would love to work with other like minded individuals to build a better tomorrow.

Thank you for starting this site and may God richly bless this site so that his work may be done.
